Canadian intellectual property counsel for international law firms and businesses

I assist foreign counsel and international businesses with Canadian patent, trademark and intellectual property matters. My work includes prosecution, registry proceedings, disputes and commercial IP questions.

I am a Toronto-based intellectual property lawyer, patent agent and trademark agent. I have practised exclusively in IP law since 2006, with legal services provided through Dickinson Wright LLP.

Canadian patent matters

Assistance may include Canadian national phase entry, prosecution, examiner reports, ownership matters and portfolio questions. I can also advise on contentious patent issues and coordinate the appropriate Canadian work within a wider international strategy.

Canadian trademark matters

I assist with direct Canadian applications, Canadian issues arising from Madrid Protocol designations, examiner objections, oppositions, non-use proceedings and brand enforcement.

The work can be limited to a particular task or form part of continuing Canadian portfolio assistance, according to the agreed instructions.

Canadian disputes and transactions

Foreign counsel can also instruct me on Canadian IP disputes, domain name matters, IP-related contracts and due diligence. Where the matter calls for other practice areas, appropriate arrangements can be discussed through Dickinson Wright.

Working arrangements

Before work begins, we can agree on the scope, budget or basis of fees, reporting arrangements and approach to communications with the client. Please identify any deadline and any existing Canadian representative in the initial inquiry.

My role is to support the agreed Canadian mandate and the referring firm’s relationship with its client.

Sending an inquiry

Please provide the client and opposing-party names, the type of matter, relevant public application or registration numbers, the known deadline and the requested scope of work. Begin with non-confidential information; conflicts and engagement arrangements must be addressed before substantive work begins.
